Best kids cereal commercial of all time? You be the judge. Lost commericials from the 1950's created by an animator banned from a major studio. www.homestatfarm.com
Hahaha! Finally! I grew up hearing my dad talk about this commercial (sometimes he'd just say "I want my maypo!") And I finally looked it up because I'd never actually seen or heard the commercial, & now, thanks to you, I HAVE! Thank you so much! 💞😘💞😘💞
Funny alternative to the saccharine BS that mostly filled the Vast Wasteland at the time. BTW - at 3:05 it's Sunday morning during the churchy 1950s and nobody - not the kids, not Uncle Ralph, not his guests - is going to church.
Was Maypo good. I grew up on cream of wheat ,Quaker instant oatmeal variety pack classic flavours and fruit and cream flavours, the regular oatmeal and malt o meal both original and chocolate flavoured, along with cold cereals
My kids grew up on Wheatena, Maypo, and Maltex hot cereals. I believe I ate more than they did. I had to google it to see if it was still available...it's been so long and online shopping has taken over, so who knows what is in the stores these days, and who even wants to go there...not me.
John Hubley created Marky Maypo. Emery may have worked with him, Wikipedia does not credit him doing the Maypo commercials, but does cite Hubley who also did Mr. Magoo. Same style.
More than likely. Tastes change periodically. Especially in the advertising world. I'm sure a lot of animators worked over time with one another for different projects and studios
Oatmeal is truly horrible next to maypo. Maypo is in the middle of cream of wheat and oatmeal but it doesn't lump clump up. Maypo with lots of butter, sugar and blueberries. Sometimes peaches apples or bananas to. They still make this wonderful hot cereal but don't sell it in stores. So you have to order a case of 12 online for the same price as other hot cereal at the grocery store. A box last me a week anyway. The maple flavor is really strong, so for the life of me, who would actually mix honey in it when sugar has the same calories?
Maypo, Wheatena, Farina, Zoom and a couple of others were once nation wide. Grew up seeing them on stores shelves everywhere on the west coast. Other cereals became popular and some like these slowly lost their appeal and lost shelf space starting in the late 70s or so. Some stores can still be found here or there that carry them but is now mostly midwest regional or online. Really liked Wheatena, very healthy wheat cereal that uses the whole grain, nutty flavor and texture. Some of the others only use portions of the seed and some like Maypo were pre-sweetened or had competition from Cream of Wheat. No stores real close to me so I order a couple boxes at a time which last me and hubby a long time because we like something different every morning.
Didn't "Charlie Harper" do a Maypo.....licious jingle? He and Jake were going through the grocery store, Jake had the tune in his head and wouldn't stop singing it.
John Hubley animated these spots in the late '50s (his son Mark was "Marky's" voice). The "still frame" at 3:45 was a cue for a live local announcer to deliver his/her own ad copy for Maypo to viewers {I've seen an example of woman doing that, via an old kinescope tag}.
Wheat in and of itself without the bran and germ is a rather bland product but adding other items does enhance it. Maypo had maple, though I do not recall if originally it was the real thing or not. Did not care for it. do not remember how sweet or not it use to be. Never been into pre-sweetened stuff, most is over done or artificial yuck. Ever think of adding fruit, honey, sugar?
Are there any of those live-action Maypo commercials made around 1969-70, where famous strong athletes are pouting, "I want my Maypo!"? I think I remember them, but can't find them. Am I dreaming this?
Yes. Was everywhere at one time. Was never a fan, maybe because of being pre-sweetened. Competition, changing tastes, fast or frozen foods changed things. Can still be found online, regionally in mostly the midwest, or the occasional distant store.
These were great
I WANT MY MAYPO 1:07 2:20
I haven't thought about Maypo in decades. I appreciate this so much. Adorable little voice of Marky.
Little bastard ☺️
So cute
That was from a year ago a lot of years maypo
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
This was THE GENUINELY ENTERTAINING Series of of commercials....EVER !I
I remember all three commercials and yes I'm over 39 yrs old 🤣🤣🤣
In the description it says the person who made this was banned from a major studio, who was that guy any ways??
i think John Hubley
I grew up in the 60's and I remember these commercials VERY WELL. They were hilarious.
They used real children as the voices, so it was literally the voice of a generation. The boomers never stopped wanting their Maypo.
so cute

Great to watch commercials from the 50s and 60s, even though i was born in the 2000s
Marvelous! Marky Mapo RULES!
4:07 Alan Reed.
You don't SAY....?
Marky standing in the door like a gangsta, with his yo-yo. “You got my maypo? I want my maypo! Today!”
Not Mother's crystal!
Not the Homburg!
I can still remember what it taste like.
I used to eat this when I was a kid,. Yes I'm old.

Did you and your kids ever eat Cocowheats?
I love maypo cereal one of my favorites
Brilliant! Thanks to John Hubley ♡ from our early '50s.
I don’t have time to cook maypo, my guests will be here in 5 minutes! LOL!
Emery Hawkins animation. My mentor Corny Cole went on an on about the dude, he did alot of the Woody Woodpecker cartoons. Solid work.
John Hubley created Marky Maypo. Emery may have worked with him, Wikipedia does not credit him doing the Maypo commercials, but does cite Hubley who also did Mr. Magoo. Same style.
Glad to know!
Hubley often used Hawkins for his films. I wouldn't doubt that he didn't, but he often had a set of animators who worked for him over the years.

Nic Sweet I was gonna say the animation was unusual for the time.
This is so cute! But that kid is kind of awful...
NOT THE HOMBURG!
Marky said....."Big boys eat Maypo"......anyone want to eat my Maypo????......LOL!!!!
i still have my Marky Mapo plastic doll in the attic.... when i was a kid it sat at the breakfast table with me...

Danny and Billy'd remember these!
My dad was a maypo kid
Anna Devlin My dad could never stand the stuff!
Mom tried a couple of times, no go. We were not a pre-sweetened cereal family.
Are you sure, my dad is also was the maypo dad
Didn't "Charlie Harper" do a Maypo.....licious jingle? He and Jake were going through the grocery store, Jake had the tune in his head and wouldn't stop singing it.
+Kathy Mills no, the was maple loops....they were maplelicious
I came here because of The Iron Giant.
THAT'S WHY ITS SO FAMILIAR OH MY GOD YES!
Me too
The children's voices are so adorable! Thank you for the posting and thank you, Barry, for the info about the real Marky!
usually dont by an adult woman.
I think the girl with the hat sounds even more adorable and cute
Go eff yourself you crazed female.
Marky Maypo is a TOTAL brat
Too bad the complete Mickey mantle, Wilt Chamberlain, Don Meredith one isn't on here somewhere
I still remember these! Does this apply to sex, too? LOL

Some communist he turned out to be if he took work from these predatory carb jockeys.

If only they spent less time on the commercials and more time adding some damned flavor.

Forgot to mention hubby likes to add brown sugar and butter, no milk, to his hot cereals. You might like it.

I don't remember Maypo!! Do you?? Blessings, Andy

We serve this shit in our nursing home. It's pretty fucking ghetto.
And no doubt you add to the great experience.
